Everything You Need to Know About Our Natural Deodorant
Our refreshing, nourishing natural deodorant prevents odour forming bacteria from gathering on the skin. It’s aluminum-free, preservative-free, and utilizes local, ethically-sourced beeswax. Using a combination of coconut oil infused with yellow calendula, vitamin E oil, beeswax, and essential oils to combat bacteria growth and baking soda and arrowroot powder to absorb wetness, Pure Joy Deodorant keeps you smelling fresh all day long- while moisturizing your skin!
Our creamy formula enables you to use the perfect amount for you. Rubbing the deodorant into the skin assists in the absorption of the product, effectively preventing staining on clothes, since it’s not sitting on top of the skin.
What scents does it come in?
Our natural deodorant comes in two scents: Pomegranate Patchouli and Lemongrass.
How do you apply it?
To apply, simply take a pea-sized amount or less (depending on your preference) with your finger and warm it between two fingers before applying the deodorant to your armpit, rubbing in well.
Why a cream formula?
There are three main reasons we chose a cream formula that lives in a jar:
- Applying the deodorant by hand enables you to use exactly the amount you need. Not only does this count down on the amount of wasted product, it actually activates the product's full potential. Rubbing the product into your skin allows the body to absorb it instead of it sitting on top of the skin. Bonus, this helps prevent the transfer of product to clothing!
- Using the same jars that our other product comes in reduces waste and lowers our overall environmental impact.
- Since our deodorant uses a natural coconut oil base, it's consistency may be affected by the weather. Depending on where you live, you may notice that the texture of the product may be softer in the summer and firmer in the winter. This makes it complicated for tube application. We chose to stick to truly simple, natural ingredients. If the deodorant is firm, it will soften simply by resting a warm finger on the deodorant or warming it up between your fingers.
Why a deodorant over antiperspirant?
First let's get something straight, sweat isn’t what actually smells; it’s just a mixture of salt and water. Sweating is very important for our body as it's a way to release toxins and regulate our body temperature. We don’t want to stop this process, just the smell that is often associated with it. What does create that unwanted body odour is when sweat comes into contact with the natural bacteria that lives on our skin.
Our deodorant has been formulated with ingredients that are high in antibacterial and antifungal properties to prevent odour. We use baking soda and arrowroot powder to absorb wetness.
Wait- there's baking soda in the recipe? Will it dry out my skin?
In order to balance out any potential drying effects from the baking soda, the rest of our natural deodorant recipe is high in nourishing, moisturizing properties. The combination of coconut oil, vitamin E oil, grape seed oil, calendula, and beeswax will leave your skin even healthier than where you started!
So what's all in it?
A note about transitioning to natural deodorant:
Our bodies can take time to adjust to a new deodorant, especially if we’ve been using antiperspirants. This is because antiperspirants change the bacteria in our pits. Do not fret, it’s typical for the body to take about two weeks to adjust to the new product. This is because the body is releasing toxins from previous products that have built up in the pores. The ingredients in our deodorant are chosen specifically to aid in the process of drawing out toxins.
